ABOUT ME
As a brand new publisher for the Brazos Valley region. I am delighted to meet individuals and develop a deeper relationship within our community!
My “mundane or traditional” job is working with small businesses. We take advantage of events as one creative approach to increasing brand recognition.
I have managed long-term planning from start to finish for tons of unique events; including annual events, small business events, funerals, memorials, and weddings. Over the past decade, I have handled talent management, booked concerts and shows. I have worked at the Texas Renaissance Festival and Sherwood Forest Fair managing a clothing shop, Zootzu, for years. I believe this is where my true passion lies…. in the creation of something and watching it come to life!
I have incurred many challenges in life and one of the hardest ones to date was during the last few months of my father’s life while he battled cancer, I realized how little support is out there for those facing cancer and their families for the everyday needs.
A cancer support group, The Life Support Project, emerged in Houston with a mission to involve the community both for financial resources, but for mental and physical support as well. The body cannot win a fight that the spirit has already abandoned.“One Fight One Stand, No One Fights Alone.” ~The Life Support ProjectThis mission developed into annual fundraisers. |
Darkside Metal Madness, a metal-themed cancer show, and benefit fundraiser was born from individuals that knew firsthand what it felt like to have a support system like the music scene, yet they were still facing a lack of support in such a vital hour. There were several band members that came forward regarding their own journeys.
We rallied together the best way the group knew how. Loud, proud, and IN YOUR FACE! As time passed and many of those assisting with the events gained their own experiences, we realized there was a common theme. People were in crisis because they were caught off guard. They were unprepared for the struggles they were facing. We didn’t tiptoe around anything. We spoke up with our voice when those we loved were struggling to voice their needs. Some subjects make people uncomfortable.
I used the event to bring community awareness to the lack of support for families facing terminal diagnoses and to be mindful of those that are struggling around us. We invited attendees to offer their time, services, and monetarily to the cause, and to truly commit to making a difference in the lives of others. We also encouraged attendees to look into their own families.
- Were they taking the crucial steps today to have the needed support in a crisis later?
- What would happen if one or BOTH parents were incapable to care for their children anymore? Are there important factors to consider here for safety concerns?
- Power of Attorney or POA options.
- Life support and the desires of those you love.
DID YOU KNOW? Your ex-spouse could be in charge of decisions on your behalf if you haven't updated official records!!
“They raise money but also provide safety and comfort of a group setting to discuss these life-and-death issues, something difficult to do in smaller settings.”
JESSE SENDEJAS JR., Houston Press Article
Rock Out 4 Kids Toy Drive, a Christmas Themed Rock show with all bands under 18. Admission was an unwrapped toy or cash at the door.
I love incorporating children of all ages at every opportunity I can find.
From planning and coordinating, graphic creation and article drafting, press releases about the event, assisting with marketing, advertising, promoting, playing in a band, character actors, assisting the MC with hosting the event, selling tickets, 50/50 raffles, assisting with the silent auction, working at activities stations all the way to the final toy purchases and allowing them to assist with the purchase of the toys based on the remaining needs list and then the actual delivery of the toys to the hospital. We talked about everything so that the children understood what it was they were fighting for.
In 2016, it was so successful we had to rent a U-Haul truck to deliver the toys to Texas Children’s Hospital! 🙂 | ||
They have promoted or discussed many of my passion projects on podcasts, internet stations, FM radio stations, and in magazines and newspapers.
I have always been the go-to person for people I know, whether it be personal or business-related. A few years ago, I took a break for a while to prioritize my family and their immediate needs, but it changed nothing in my soul.
Working with passion in everything that I do, I strive each day to keep all of life’s responsibilities in their own lanes. I continue to master the art of work/life balance. Being mindful of all angles in a situation has taught me to see past the words and to better read a person’s needs and intentions.
