What Mom Really Wants for Mother's Day or Any Other Holiday

By Misty Kelly- Macaroni Kid Publisher, Bryan-College Station May 8, 2022

Moms everywhere are hoping for some very easy-to-give, yet rarely given gifts. Sure, a necklace, pair of shoes, or a bag might be nice, but deep down what most moms wish for is more time, a break from a mundane task, or some time for themselves.

What mom really wants
for Mother's Day
or any other holiday:

“There is nothing as powerful as a mother’s love, and nothing as healing as a child’s soul.” – Unknown

  • A long, hot, uninterrupted shower
  • A sink clear of all dirty dishes
  • Clean, folded, and put-away laundry
  • Time to drink a hot cup of coffee or tea- while it's still hot
  • For things that get knocked over or dropped to be picked up
  • For uninterrupted time to tackle the never ending To-Do list
  • A family outing during which everyone is happy
  • One morning to sleep in
  • A night out with friends without the kids
  • A hot, uninterrupted meal
  • Basically, allow us to do anything uninterrupted
  • A clean car (inside and out)
  • Take the trash out!
  • Time to get ready without someone holding her pant leg, crying, asking for help, or needing to be rescued
  • Privacy when using the bathroom
  • A family photo with everyone smiling
Pro tip: Help take the pictures of the family if you are taller. Hold the camera up high at an angle so mom looks her best.
  • Take the kids on a bike ride for thirty minutes, so she can dance around the kitchen to her music, something other than Kidz Bop, Baby Shark, It’s Raining Tacos, or Ole Town Road.
  • A nap or an interrupted rest
  • To watch a show from start to finish without having to pause or rewind
  • An hour of quiet to read a book, journal, meditate or do yoga
  • A trip to the store without kids to get shopping done quickly and tear-free
  • Time to prepare a meal without someone else constantly needing something

PS. Mother’s Day is TODAY. It is Sunday. Not Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday, or three weeks away. It is TODAY!
